COURSE CURRICULUM

This Master's program offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary study of financial law within an international context, equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and practical understanding of how the global financial system operates and is regulated. Central to the course is the 30-credit module in International Financial System, which introduces students to the foundational structures of banking, securities, and insurance, while critically examining the relationships between financial development, global economic trends, and regulatory frameworks. Through detailed analysis of cross-border activities, financial sanctions, and power imbalances, this module enables students to understand both the operation and the necessity of financial regulation. Complementing this is the Corporate Law module, which explores how companies function within both legal and non-legal frameworks, emphasizing issues such as corporate governance, regulatory challenges, and the balance of stakeholder interests. The Banking and Finance Law module deepens this focus by investigating the evolving nature of banking and financial services, particularly in response to technological change and global regulatory developments.Students also undertake a rigorous research component. The Research Methods in Law module prepares them for independent inquiry by introducing research design, theoretical approaches, and methodological strategies, culminating in a 60-credit Dissertation. This final project allows students to apply their learning to a specific legal or financial issue of personal or professional interest, drawing upon skills in legal analysis, academic writing, and critical thinking developed throughout the course. To further tailor their learning, students can choose an optional 15-credit module. Those interested in the technical aspects of finance may opt for Introduction to Finance, which covers key financial instruments and markets. Alternatively, Common Law Foundations offers an essential background for those new to or revisiting the principles of common law, particularly useful for students from civil law jurisdictions. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in international legal practice, regulatory agencies, financial institutions, or academia.
