COURSE CURRICULUM

This postgraduate course in Landscape Architecture and Urbanism offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding and designing urban and natural environments. At its core is the Masters Project, a 60-credit individually developed design research project that challenges students to integrate theory, technique, and creativity. It is intended as a culmination of prior learning, where students are encouraged to propose experimental and speculative responses to complex spatial and environmental questions using a combination of visual, written, and performative media. Supporting this is the 30-credit Advanced Landscape Design module, a studio-based project focusing on multi-scalar and site-specific design challenges. It promotes innovation, critical thinking, and application of professional and technical methods. The course also includes Landscape and Urbanism Theory, which provides 30 credits of rigorous engagement with critical and theoretical frameworks drawn from landscape, architecture, urbanism, and wider social and ecological discourses. Students are encouraged to apply these concepts both in reflective essays and design practice. Design Research Methodologies (20 credits) introduces students to diverse disciplinary research approaches and helps them develop their own unique methodology for working with cities, landscapes, and territories. The Professional and Technical Practice module (20 credits) prepares students for real-world application by providing a strong foundation in professional regulation, material systems, emerging technologies, and technical design strategies. Landscape Representation (20 credits) offers instruction in advanced visual and digital communication techniques such as drawing, illustration, model making, interactive media, and film, all of which are closely tied to design development and presentation. Together, these modules aim to build a holistic understanding of landscape and urban systems, empowering students to become innovative designers, critical thinkers, and future leaders in landscape architecture. The program emphasizes cross-disciplinary learning, advanced research, and the development of professional skills essential for impactful and responsible landscape practice.
