COURSE CURRICULUM
This postgraduate program in International Relations offers a comprehensive and critically engaged curriculum, combining core theoretical frameworks, practical research skills, and topical issues that shape the global landscape. The course begins with foundational modules such as International Relations Theory and Practice, which introduces students to a broad spectrum of theoretical and conceptual approaches, guiding them to understand global governance, current geopolitical events, and the power structures shaping international relations today. Alongside this, Research Skills and Methods equips students with advanced social science methodologies and analytical tools needed to design and conduct independent research. The Social Movements in the Global World module provides historical insight into social activism and equips students with the critical ability to analyse contemporary movements and the tools they use for social change. Another core module, International Migration and Governance, explores global migration patterns, border politics, integration debates, and the lived experiences of migrants, fostering a nuanced understanding of migration as a central issue in international relations. The Dissertation/Research Project is the capstone of the program, offering students the opportunity to pursue an original, in-depth research study on a self-selected topic within international relations. Through this, students demonstrate their ability to manage and execute a complex research project while engaging with theoretical debates, empirical data, and critical analysis. To further specialise their academic and professional interests, students choose between International Human Rights Law or International Criminal Law. The former explores key principles, regional instruments, and case law, while critically engaging with discourses and the application of human rights law in domestic contexts. The latter delves into the legal and philosophical foundations of international criminal law, examining how these principles operate in real-world contexts. Together, these modules prepare graduates for advanced academic study or professional roles in international organisations, NGOs, policy-making, or legal sectors.
