COURSE CURRICULUM
This MA Education course offers a rigorous and critically engaged framework for exploring the complexities of education in local and global contexts. Core modules such as Critical Perspectives in Education (30 credits) provide the theoretical backbone for understanding how philosophical and sociological frameworks have shaped education as a discipline and a practice, enabling students to critically evaluate educational structures and ideologies. Building on this foundation, Global Perspectives on Education (30 credits) equips students to engage in comparative analyses of educational systems worldwide, deepening their understanding of pedagogical traditions, policy-making, and structural differences across cultures. These perspectives are essential for professionals aiming to navigate and influence the increasingly internationalised educational landscape. The Dissertation module (60 credits) allows students to independently investigate an area of educational interest, drawing on robust epistemological, ontological, and methodological knowledge developed in the Enquiry Skills in Educational Research module (30 credits), which prepares students to design ethical, rigorous, and contextually informed research projects. Students also have the opportunity to tailor their studies through one of several optional modules (30 credits), such as Inclusion & Social Justice, which encourages exploration of systemic marginalisation in education, or The Child’s Lived Experience, which focuses on early years pedagogy and child development in multicultural settings. Other options include 21st Century Pedagogy, which examines contemporary teaching approaches and the integration of digital technologies, and Leadership in Education, which prepares students for roles requiring strategic and organisational expertise in educational institutions. Whether students are educators, policy-makers, or researchers, this program fosters critical thinking, research competence, and a deep appreciation of education’s role in shaping society, empowering them to lead change, advocate for equity, and contribute meaningfully to educational discourse and practice.
