This MA in Creative Writing offers a rich, immersive experience designed to develop students into skilled, thoughtful, and industry-aware writers across multiple forms. At its core is the 60-credit Creative Portfolio, which allows students to produce a substantial body of original work in a chosen genre, guided by expert supervision. Complementing this is the Research Skills and Theories module, which equips students with the scholarly tools necessary for postgraduate-level literary study. The course includes three genre-specific modules: Writing Fictions, Writing Performance, and Writing Poetry and Other Experiments. Writing Fictions offers a deep dive into narrative prose, blending the study of genre and avant-garde forms with intensive practice through writing workshops and peer feedback. Writing Performance focuses on playwriting and scriptwriting for theatre, film, TV, and radio, with a strong emphasis on industry expectations and the relationship between text and performance. Meanwhile, Writing Poetry and Other Experiments challenges students to engage with experimental forms, encouraging innovation and pushing the boundaries of poetic expression. Each of these modules blends critical reading with practical exercises, fostering a reflective and iterative creative process.
