COURSE CURRICULUM

This LLM program offers a comprehensive foundation in international trade and commercial law, combining essential theoretical frameworks with practical application. At its core is the 60-credit Dissertation module, where students conduct an independent research project that synthesises their learning and demonstrates advanced understanding in a chosen area of interest. Preparation for this is supported by the Research Methods in Law module (15 credits), which equips students with the essential skills for legal research design, methodology selection, and academic writing.Students also undertake key compulsory modules such as International Trade Law (30 credits), which explores legal principles governing international sale of goods, import/export contracts, financing mechanisms, and dispute resolution. This module provides a broad yet in-depth understanding of the legal context surrounding global trade. Another core module is Commercial Arbitration (15 credits), which examines the procedures and legal frameworks associated with resolving commercial disputes through arbitration, offering insight into both domestic and international practices. To complete the degree, students choose 60 credits from a range of specialised optional modules. These include Competition Law (30 credits), which covers UK and EU regulatory systems and enforcement mechanisms, focusing on anti-competitive practices under Articles 101 and 102 TFEU. Intellectual Property Law (30 credits) examines the relationship between international trade and IP rights, offering students the knowledge to navigate UK legislation, international treaties, and policy implications. Banking and Finance Law (30 credits) provides a critical understanding of financial regulation, banking relationships, and the influence of global financial systems and technologies on legal frameworks. This combination of core and elective modules prepares graduates for careers in legal practice, international business, regulation, compliance, and academia, particularly where legal expertise in trade, finance, or dispute resolution is essential.
