COURSE CURRICULUM

The Law degree provides a rigorous and comprehensive legal education across public, private, criminal, and commercial law, supported by practical legal skills and opportunities for specialisation. In Year 1, students study three compulsory modules: Public Law, which explores the UK constitution, the roles of government branches, and administrative law mechanisms like judicial review; Law of Contract, which provides foundational knowledge of contract principles and case law; and Legal Skills, Advocacy and Professional Ethics, equipping students with key legal research and professional practice skills. Students also choose an optional 30-credit module, selecting either Legal System or one of several European language modules at varying levels in French, Italian, or Spanish.In Year 2, compulsory modules include Land Law, which introduces students to property rights and interests in land; Law of Torts, which develops knowledge of civil wrongs and personal injury law; Criminal Law, covering general principles, selected offences, and defences with an emphasis on practical legal problem-solving; and Human Rights and European Union Law, addressing key legal protections and the evolving impact of European integration and withdrawal.Year 4 (final year) includes Equity and Trusts, a core module that examines the principles and applications of trusts and equitable remedies. Students then choose 90 credits from a wide selection of optional modules that allow for specialisation. These include areas such as Company and Partnership Law, Family Law, Commercial Law, Medical Law, Immigration and Asylum Law, Intellectual Property, Competition Law, and Advanced Criminal Law. Practical modules such as Legal Work Placement and Undergraduate Research Placement offer hands-on experience in legal settings and academic research, enhancing employability and practical insight.Throughout the program, emphasis is placed on critical thinking, legal analysis, and practical application, preparing graduates for professional legal training, practice, or a wide range of careers within and beyond the legal sector.
