COURSE CURRICULUM

This interdisciplinary degree program in psychology and sociology is structured across three years, aiming to develop students’ understanding of human behavior and social systems. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through core modules such as Introduction to Psychology, which presents major psychological theories and critiques, Inequality and Social Change, which explores systemic inequality and theories of social justice, and Applying the Sociological Imagination, which connects individual experiences with societal structures. Students also select between modules in applied psychology or counselling, depending on their interest in professional applications or therapeutic practices. In the second year, students advance their psychological expertise through modules on developmental, social, clinical, and personality psychology. These courses emphasize critical evaluation of theories, research methods, and real-world applications. Simultaneously, sociological learning is deepened through modules like Key Thinkers in Sociology and Sociology in Practice, which focus on theoretical debates and research methodology. The final year includes compulsory modules on Gender, Race and Crime and Sociology of Gender and Sexuality, addressing intersectional perspectives on identity and power. Students tailor their learning through options such as work placements, dissertations, or specialist modules including Cross-Cultural Psychology, Clinical Child Psychology, Globalisation, and Family, Social Division and the State. Additional options in applied, developmental, neuro, and organizational psychology allow students to align their studies with specific career goals. The course also emphasizes practical skills, including research methods, critical thinking, and communication, preparing graduates for roles in education, mental health, social services, policy, and further study. Throughout the program, students engage with contemporary social issues and the evolving interplay between psychological theory and sociological practice, fostering both academic depth and applied knowledge relevant to diverse professions and societal challenges.
