COURSE CURRICULUM

The Public Health program is a comprehensive three-year course designed to provide students with a broad understanding of public health and its key concepts. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational topics such as the history of public health, professional practice, and ethical issues. They develop skills in data analysis and gain a solid understanding of health economics, policy, and the bio-psycho-social perspectives on health. Students also learn about the social determinants of health, including poverty, inequality, and social exclusion. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of health needs assessment, public health research methods, and the link between social factors and health. The course further explores the application of ethics in health, advanced epidemiology, and policy. Students engage in more in-depth studies on health inequalities and continue to develop skills in critical thinking and analysis. The third year shifts focus to professional practice and management in health and social care settings. Students explore health promotion strategies, the global context of public health, and the impact of housing and the environment on wellbeing. They also engage in employment-based learning to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings. The final year culminates in a dissertation where students conduct in-depth research on a public health topic. The course is designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to pursue careers in public health, policy, research, or management. By the end of the program, students will be prepared to contribute to public health practice and policy, making a positive impact on health and wellbeing both locally and globally.
