COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Psychology program offers a structured and progressive curriculum that equips students with foundational knowledge, research skills, and applied experience across key areas of psychology. In the first year, students develop a broad understanding of psychological theory and methods through modules such as Introduction to Psychology and Research Methods in Psychology 1, which covers both qualitative and quantitative approaches to data collection and analysis using statistical software. Students also gain insight into the field of counselling and develop essential academic and personal development skills through modules like Introduction to Counselling, Academic Skills for Psychology, and The Psychology of Resilience and Success. The second year deepens students' understanding of cognitive, biological, developmental, and social psychology while expanding their knowledge of mental health through Psychopathology and Clinical Psychology. Students further enhance their research capabilities via Psychological Research Methods and Research Statistics for Psychology. The curriculum also includes applied content, such as Counselling Perspectives on Diversity and Individual Differences, which highlights the importance of ethical practice and cultural sensitivity. In the final year, students complete a major independent research project, allowing them to apply their knowledge and research skills in a supervised setting. They also study Counselling Theory and Skills, exploring three major therapeutic approaches—cognitive-behavioural, humanistic, and psychodynamic—while practicing related counselling techniques. The Psychology and Graduate Career Development module supports students in preparing for postgraduate study or professional roles. In addition to core modules, students choose from a wide range of optional topics such as health psychology, forensic psychology, neuroscience, cross-cultural psychology, and political psychology. This flexibility allows students to tailor their final year to their interests and career goals. Overall, the program combines academic rigor with practical experience, preparing graduates for diverse roles in psychology, counselling, health services, education, research, and beyond.
