COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, the BSc Forensic Science program provides a comprehensive introduction to both scientific principles and forensic science practices. Students begin with modules like Exploring Forensic Science, which covers fundamental forensic concepts, evidence handling, and the legal and ethical aspects of forensic work. The Concepts in Science module ensures all students have a solid grounding in core scientific concepts, while Practical Skills for Science develops laboratory competencies and technical skills. The Skills for Tomorrow’s Scientists module focuses on communication, data analysis, and scientific integrity, preparing students for academic success and future careers. In Year 2, students deepen their knowledge with modules such as Physiological Systems and Regulation, which explores the regulation of physiological systems in health and disease. Instrumental Analysis introduces students to key analytical techniques, and Skills in Crime Scene Examination teaches the practical aspects of crime scene processing and evidence recovery. Other modules like Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology provide essential knowledge about drug development, pharmacokinetics, and the physiological impacts of drugs. Forensic and Clinical Toxicology prepares students for toxicology-related cases in both clinical and forensic settings, while Drug Development and Regulation covers the drug development process and forensic toxicology applications. In addition, Chemometrics and Informatics introduces analytical data evaluation techniques, while Specialised Topics and Case Studies in Toxicology provide insights into current issues in forensic toxicology. In Year 2, students also engage in the Project (Chemical Sciences) module, allowing them to apply their skills to a sustained research project. Neuropharmacology and Analytical Toxicology modules extend their understanding of the nervous system and the challenges in forensic toxicology, equipping students with critical skills for advanced forensic science and toxicology careers.
