COURSE CURRICULUM
The Computer Science program is designed to equip students with both theoretical foundations and practical skills across a broad spectrum of computing disciplines. In the first year, students begin by understanding the basics of computer systems and communication through the Computer and Communication Systems module. They then develop a strong programming foundation in Paradigms of Programming, learning both object-oriented and functional paradigms to solve software problems effectively. The Algorithms and Data Structures module introduces critical concepts in problem decomposition and algorithmic thinking, while Introduction to Compilers explores compiler theory, state machines and how programming languages are translated into machine code. Principles of Software Engineering builds essential knowledge in structured software development, covering design practices, teamwork, and ethical responsibilities in the industry. Mathematics for Computer Science and Advanced Mathematics for Computer Science together provide foundational knowledge in algebra, calculus and statistics tailored for computing problems. In the second year, students broaden their technical scope with modules such as Advanced Programming, which deepens coding capabilities in modern software environments, and Operating Systems, which explores the management of hardware resources. Computer Networks and Information Security modules introduce students to network architecture, communication protocols and cybersecurity fundamentals. Advanced Algorithms and Data Structures as well as Computational Methods and Numerical Techniques refine the student’s ability to model and solve complex problems using statistical and algorithmic tools. Students also explore applied areas through Introduction to Computer Forensics, where they learn digital investigation techniques, and develop practical understanding in ethical hacking, computer network design, and vulnerability assessment. In the final year, students undertake a major Final Year Project, applying all they have learned to a real-world problem, from concept to implementation. Advanced modules like Penetration Testing and Ethical Vulnerability Scanning, Advanced Networks, Network Security and Computer Forensics 3 focus on applied security, digital evidence handling and critical infrastructure defence. This structure ensures that graduates are prepared for a range of computing careers, from software development and network engineering to cybersecurity and digital forensics.
