COURSE CURRICULUM

This biomedical science degree provides students with foundational scientific knowledge, practical skills, and specialized biomedical training across three years. In the first year, students are introduced to biomedical science through modules like Exploring Biomedical Science, which covers disease principles, diagnosis, and physiology. Concepts in Science ensures a broad grounding in scientific ideas from atomic theory to ecosystems, while Practical Skills for Science builds lab competence. Skills for Tomorrow’s Scientists equips students with essential university-level study and research skills, including data analysis, communication, and integrity.The second year deepens understanding of biomedical systems and processes. Students study Cellular and Molecular Pathology, Metabolism and Disease, Genetics, and Infection and Immunity, linking cellular mechanisms to disease. Modules in Bioanalytical Techniques and Haematology provide insight into diagnostic lab methods and blood disorders. Students also explore Physiological Systems and gain research and professional development skills to support future employment.In the final year, students complete an independent Life Sciences project, applying their learning to a research topic. Core modules include Advanced and Clinical Immunology, Medical Microbiology, and Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science, all of which offer advanced insights into diagnostics, disease processes, and treatments. Optional modules allow further specialization in areas like cancer biology, neuropharmacology, molecular biology, and stem cell research. Students can also choose between a Science Internship or Employability and Governance module to gain workplace experience or understand career and professional standards.
