COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science degree offers a comprehensive curriculum combining theoretical foundations, practical programming, and advanced topics. In Year 1, students build core competencies through modules such as Computer and Communication Systems, which introduces system architecture and communication protocols, and Paradigms of Programming, which develops proficiency in functional and object-oriented programming. Additional foundational modules include Algorithms and Data Structures, Introduction to Compilers, Principles of Software Engineering, and two sequential mathematics courses tailored for computing students—Mathematics for Computer Science and Advanced Mathematics. In Year 2, the focus shifts to advanced programming concepts and systems-level knowledge. Core modules include Advanced Programming, Operating Systems, Information Security, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence, and Advanced Algorithms and Data Structures. A key 30-credit module, Computational Methods and Numerical Techniques, deepens students' understanding of mathematical modeling and data analysis. Students can also select one optional module from areas like Computer Forensics, Statistical Techniques with R, or Operational Research. In the final year, students undertake a 60-credit Final Year Project, applying their skills in research, design, and implementation. Other core modules include Human Computer Interaction and Design and Software Engineering Management. Students then choose two 15-credit options from a broad range including Penetration Testing, Natural Computing, JVM Programming Languages, AI Applications, Graph Theory, and Big Data Visualisation. Additional options like Machine Learning, Optimisation Techniques, and Coding and Cryptography allow for further specialisation. This program blends essential theoretical grounding with technical skill development and professional practices, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for roles in software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, and beyond.
