COURSE CURRICULUM

The drama course spans four years and includes a structured mix of compulsory and optional modules designed to develop both practical and theoretical performance skills. In Year 1, all students undertake six compulsory modules totaling 120 credits: Production and Technical Theatre, Creative Futures, Critical Contexts for Performance, Improvisation and Devising, Documentary Theatre, and Acting the Contemporary Text. These modules lay the foundational skills in performance, theory, and technical aspects of theatre. In Year 2, students choose between two option sets. Option Set 1 includes two compulsory 30-credit modules, Stage Production and Immersive Performance, alongside one 60-credit elective, International Study (Drama). Option Set 2 also includes the same two core modules but allows students more flexibility by choosing four 15-credit options across areas like Applied and Socially Engaged Drama, Performance Laboratory, Industry Placement, Teaching Drama, Intercultural Performance, Physical Theatre, Technical Theatre Practice, and Stage Combat. Year 3 is dedicated to Professional Practice through International Study, offering immersive, real-world learning but carries no formal credit. In Year 4, students complete a compulsory 30-credit Research Project and must choose from a variety of modules to complete the remaining 90 credits. These include one 30-credit option such as Directing for Theatre or Theatre and Young Audiences, one 15-credit module from Performing Technologies or Writing For Theatre, another 30-credit option between Theatre Company or Solo Performance, and a final 15-credit module chosen from Advanced Acting, Advanced Placement, or British Theatre since 2005. The course offers a well-rounded education with opportunities to specialize in practical, theoretical, or pedagogical aspects of drama, while also including chances for international study and professional experience.
