COURSE CURRICULUM

The Child Development and Wellbeing degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of child psychology, health, wellbeing, and the social dynamics that influence children and young adults. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing students for careers in healthcare, education, and social services. In Year 1, students explore foundational topics in child development and health, such as Child Psychology and Development 1, which delves into the psychological and emotional growth of children. The module Introduction to Health and Wellbeing from Conception to Young Adult provides insights into physical health and development from early childhood through adolescence. Academic Practice and Personal Development supports students in developing essential academic and professional skills, while Advocating for Children’s Rights and Participation focuses on the importance of advocating for children and involving them in decisions about their lives.Year 2 expands on this foundation by focusing on more practical and contemporary issues. The Supporting the Social Well-Being of Families with Children: Workplace Experience module allows students to gain hands-on experience in a relevant workplace setting. Students also examine Early Intervention strategies for addressing developmental challenges and Vulnerable Populations across the Life Course, exploring issues affecting children, adolescents, and young adults. Additional topics like Contemporary Issues in Mental Health and Wellbeing and Contemporary Family Dynamics provide a broader understanding of the socio-cultural factors impacting wellbeing. In Year 3, the program examines the influence of the environment and inequalities on health through Living Environments, Inequalities and Health. Students also engage with Future Careers and Professional Practice, preparing for their career paths, and explore the significance of Diversity, Ethics, and Values in child development. The Enquiry Project allows for independent research, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a real-world context.
