COURSE CURRICULUM
Across the three years, this degree offers a structured yet flexible journey through politics, international relations, language, and global issues. In Year 1, students gain foundational knowledge through core modules that introduce political theory, international relations, and pressing global challenges. This grounding is complemented by an optional module, allowing students to either begin or continue language learning or explore history, social change, and media studies. The range of language options supports all levels of ability and integrates cultural awareness, while other modules such as Empireland? or Writing for the Media offer diverse academic and practical perspectives. In Year 2, students deepen their theoretical and practical engagement through compulsory modules on liberalism, global development, and applied politics. Option Set 1 allows students to continue language study or develop journalistic skills, reinforcing communication and critical analysis. Option Set 2 offers interdisciplinary insights through historical, sociological, and environmental lenses, providing a broader academic context and enhancing student choice. This dual-path structure ensures students can pursue topics most relevant to their goals, whether focusing on language, media, or global socio-political issues. In the final year, students critically examine soft power, international security, and political conspiracy, culminating their studies with high-level analysis and research. They then personalise their academic path through one of two option sets: Option Set 1 supports in-depth language study, independent research, or workplace experience, while Option Set 2 encourages thematic exploration of environmental history, globalisation, migration, and cultural identity through film. Across all three years, the curriculum is designed to build advanced analytical, linguistic, and communication skills while fostering critical thinking and independent learning. The course prepares students for diverse careers in international affairs, media, public service, and beyond by offering both academic depth and real-world application.
