COURSE CURRICULUM

This three-year program offers a comprehensive exploration of sound, music, and audio production across creative and professional contexts. In Year 1, students develop foundational skills in recording, mixing, and mastering through hands-on work with professional audio equipment. They explore the critical role of sound in visual media and learn to create soundscapes for various formats such as film, games, and interactive media. Courses in composition and performance introduce experimental approaches and foster collaborative work. Students also study the cultural, social, and economic significance of sound and music, linking theoretical insights with personal and professional ambitions. In Year 2, the focus shifts to refining compositional and performance skills and deepening the understanding of global sound and music cultures. Students may choose optional modules including international study to gain global creative perspectives, or practice-based modules such as Game Sound and Immersive Audio and Music and Sound for Film, which provide technical and conceptual training in spatial sound, interactive design, and sound for moving image. Year 3 emphasizes independent and applied learning through a research project and an advanced production project, encouraging students to synthesize skills and knowledge developed throughout the course. Additional modules support community engagement and professional development, including a Community Music Project where students design sound-based experiences for local groups, and an Industry Placement module that allows students to gain work experience in a relevant creative field. The program balances technical training, artistic development, and critical inquiry, preparing graduates for careers in sound production, media composition, community arts, and related industries.
