COURSE CURRICULUM

This Media Communications program provides a dynamic and multidisciplinary journey through contemporary media practices, theories, and industry skills. In the first year, students are introduced to creative technology, visual culture, and foundational communication principles. Modules like Media Technologies and Visual Thinking help students explore aesthetic practices and develop visual literacy through hands-on studio projects and critical inquiry. Creative Communications broadens students' media toolkits through copywriting, design, film-making, and marketing exercises, while Media and Identity introduces essential theories of representation and cultural critique, encouraging reflection on the role of media in shaping personal and collective identities. The second year deepens critical engagement with media’s role in society through compulsory study of Consumer Culture, examining advertising, consumption, and sustainability. Students choose from diverse options such as Ideas Lab, which offers live briefs and mentorship from professionals at M\&C Saatchi, and Side Hustle, which empowers students to channel personal interests into entrepreneurial or creative ventures. Other options include Writing Journalism and Brand Storytelling, both enhancing practical communication skills aligned with industry needs. In the final year, students select a major project either through a Dissertation or Advanced Projects, enabling independent, self-directed work that aligns with their academic interests or professional ambitions. They also choose from modules such as Platform Personas, exploring identity on social media; Journalism in Practice, offering multimedia storytelling skills; Mediated Environments, which investigates the spatial and sensory impact of communication technologies; and Brand Worldbuilding, focused on designing immersive brand experiences through inclusive narratives and strategic planning. Across all levels, the program integrates theory with creative practice, encouraging critical thinking, collaborative learning, and real-world applications. This combination of academic depth and practical skill-building equips graduates for diverse careers in advertising, journalism, branding, digital content creation, or postgraduate study in media and communication fields.
