The Accounting and Finance degree provides a comprehensive and structured education, guiding students from foundational knowledge to advanced financial concepts and professional readiness. In Year 1, students are introduced to the core principles of accounting through modules such as Introduction to Financial Accounting and Introduction to Management Accounting, where they learn how to prepare financial statements, apply double-entry techniques, and analyze costs and internal business operations. Additional modules like Quantitative Methods and Introduction to Finance and Economics develop analytical and numerical skills, providing insight into financial markets, institutions, and economic systems. Personal and Professional Development supports students in transitioning into university life and building essential academic and employability skills. In Year 2, the curriculum focuses on applying this foundational knowledge to real-world contexts. Core modules include Banking: Principles, Practice and Regulation, Managing Business Finance, and Financial Markets, Instruments and Institutions. These deepen students’ understanding of how banks operate, how financial decisions are made in businesses, and how financial instruments and markets function. The Future Paths module helps students prepare for placements and future careers. Students also choose an optional module such as Taxation, FinTech Fundamentals, or Business and Company Law, allowing for specialisation in emerging financial technologies, legal frameworks, or tax systems. In the final year, students explore complex global finance issues and conduct independent research. Core modules like International Corporate Finance and Investment Management offer advanced insights into multinational financial strategies and portfolio management. Students also undertake a Quantitative Research Methods module followed by a Quantitative Finance Research Project, applying data analysis to investigate finance-related questions. Optional modules such as Trading in Financial Markets, ESG Investing, and Financial Risk Management allow students to tailor their studies to key areas of contemporary finance. The program as a whole equips graduates with technical proficiency, analytical ability, and professional skills essential for careers in finance, accounting, or further academic study.
