COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film and Television program provides a comprehensive education across three years, balancing creative practice, industry knowledge, and academic development. In Year 1, students are introduced to core filmmaking techniques through modules like Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking and Introduction to Fiction Filmmaking, where they learn the fundamentals of planning, shooting, and editing films in both factual and fictional formats. Modules such as Introduction to TV Studio and TV Formats expose students to multicamera production and television-specific workflows, while Scriptwriting and Storyboarding and Storytelling for Moving Image build foundational storytelling and narrative development skills. Year 2 allows students to tailor their experience through two option sets. In Option Set 1, students develop skills in commercial and fiction content through Brand Filmmaking and Fiction Filmmaking, while choosing from modules like Creative Documentary, Postproduction Sound, Writers Room, or Music and Sound for Film to deepen technical or creative expertise. Option Set 2 combines Brand Filmmaking with an international study opportunity, expanding cultural and educational perspectives. Both pathways offer students modules that enhance employability, creative specialisation, and real-world experience. In Year 3, the curriculum focuses on preparing students for industry or postgraduate progression. All students complete Advanced Preproduction and Advanced Production Project, synthesising their learning in a final collaborative or solo film. They then select an additional 30-credit module, choosing between Virtual Production, Research Project, or Creative Entrepreneurship, depending on whether they wish to focus on emerging technologies, academic research, or business and career planning. Further optional modules such as Screen Futures, Multi-media Filmmaking, and Advanced Screenwriting allow for focused development in specific areas like commercial media, writing, or digital platforms. Overall, the program is designed to develop adaptable, industry-ready graduates equipped with the technical, critical, and creative skills necessary to thrive in the rapidly evolving fields of film, television, and media.
