This animation degree program develops students into versatile, creative professionals skilled in both traditional and digital animation techniques. In the first year, foundational modules focus on Animation Principles, storytelling, design, and modelling. Students gain experience in 2D and 3D animation, character and environment creation, and narrative development, while building technical and conceptual skills essential for advanced study. Experimental Animation Practices encourages creative exploration, and Storytelling for Animation helps students understand visual storytelling across cultural, political, and social themes.In the second year, students deepen their practical and conceptual skills. Animation Practice enhances technical proficiency and introduces industry-standard workflows. VFX Principles explores key techniques like rotoscoping and compositing, while Game Design Principles introduces students to gameplay and asset creation for interactive media. Innovative Storytelling pushes students to apply narrative techniques in collaborative, multi-platform projects, mirroring real-world industry production processes.The final year prepares students for professional careers through three core modules. Animation Studio focuses on advanced techniques and collaborative production, allowing students to take on specialist roles in a larger project. Animation & Professional Practice develops employability and entrepreneurship, helping students build a professional portfolio and gain insights into the creative industry. The Animation Research Project, a major 60-credit module, combines research and practice in a self-directed project. Students produce ambitious work—ranging from animated films to immersive experiences—supported by critical reflection and contextual analysis, positioning them for career or postgraduate progression.
