ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The University of Greenwich is a public university located in London and Kent, UK. It traces its origins to 1890 when Woolwich Polytechnic was founded in Woolwich, making it one of the oldest polytechnics in the UK. In 1970, Woolwich Polytechnic merged with Hammersmith College of Art and Building, forming Thames Polytechnic, which further expanded by incorporating several colleges. In 1992, Thames Polytechnic gained university status and was renamed the University of Greenwich in 1993. The university’s main campus is situated at the historic Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, with additional campuses in Avery Hill and Medway, Kent. It offers a broad range of subjects including architecture, business, computing, education, engineering, humanities, maritime studies, and natural sciences. The university's academic structure includes four faculties: the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Business School, the Faculty of Education, Health & Human Sciences, and the Faculty of Engineering and Science. In recent years, the University of Greenwich has expanded its engagement with the community, including a partnership with Charlton Athletic F.C. in 2018. With over 40,000 students, it remains a key institution for higher education in the region.
