COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Strength and Conditioning program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of athlete development and performance optimisation. At the core of the program is the Research Project, worth 60 credits, which enables students to undertake independent, in-depth research, integrating theoretical knowledge with applied practice. Compulsory modules cover essential areas such as the Planning and Implementation of the Training Process, Neuromechanical Basis of Strength and Conditioning, and Physiology of Training, equipping students with a detailed understanding of how the body responds to exercise and how to design programs to enhance performance. Modules on Skill Acquisition and Techniques in Strength and Conditioning focus on the practical application of coaching principles, allowing students to develop expertise in movement analysis, exercise prescription, and performance improvement. Critical Enquiry and Evidence-Based Practice emphasises the interpretation and application of research to inform training strategies, ensuring students adopt scientifically grounded approaches. Professional Development in Strength and Conditioning prepares students for the practical and ethical demands of working with athletes, fostering communication, leadership, and reflective practice skills. Overall, the program integrates theory, research, and practical training, preparing graduates to work as highly competent Strength and Conditioning Coaches capable of designing, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based training programs to optimise athletic performance across diverse sports and performance levels.
