COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Quantitative International Development is designed to equip students with advanced analytical and research skills for understanding complex issues in developing countries. The program combines rigorous training in economics, politics, and quantitative methods with the opportunity to specialise through optional modules. Core modules include Economic Development Theory, which provides a foundation in the principles and challenges of development, and International Political Economy and Comparative Political Economy, which examine the political and institutional factors shaping development outcomes. Students develop strong empirical skills through Introductory Econometrics, Panel Data Methods, Quantitative Methods, and Advanced Quantitative Methods, gaining the ability to analyse data critically and apply statistical techniques to real-world problems. Central to the course is a 40-credit dissertation, where students conduct independent research, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical data analysis to address pressing development issues. The program also offers a 20-credit optional module, allowing students to tailor their studies to particular areas of interest. By combining interdisciplinary insights with rigorous quantitative training, the MSc prepares graduates for research-oriented careers in international development, policy analysis, and consultancy, or for further academic study. Students gain both the methodological expertise and substantive knowledge necessary to contribute effectively to solving global development challenges.
