COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Political Psychology at Essex is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the ways individual psychology shapes political behaviour and decision-making. The program begins with a core module that allows students to choose between two foundational pathways, giving flexibility to tailor learning to specific interests within the field. Central to the course is the study of political psychology, where students explore key topics such as emotions, political identities, polarisation, radicalisation, authoritarianism, and the intersection of neuroscience and politics. Alongside theoretical learning, the course offers rigorous training in research design and quantitative methods, including two dedicated modules on data analysis, which equip students with essential skills for collecting, interpreting, and applying political data. Students also engage with optional modules, allowing them to specialise in areas that complement their career goals or research interests, while maintaining exposure to advanced topics in government and political analysis. The program culminates in dissertation preparation, supporting students in producing original research that integrates theory, empirical methods, and practical insights.
