COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to the study of crime, security, and transnational challenges, combining advanced criminological theory with practical research skills. At its core is the Postgraduate Taught Project and Academic Skills module, which develops the ability to conduct independent research and present findings effectively. The course also engages with urgent global issues through modules on Global Security Challenges, covering cybercrime, terrorism, and emerging threats, as well as Transnational Crime, which explores how criminal activity operates and evolves from local to global contexts. Students strengthen their methodological foundations through compulsory training in Sociological Research Design and Introduction to Quantitative Analysis, equipping them with the tools to evaluate data, design studies, and critically analyse complex social phenomena. Current Controversies in Criminology provides a platform to debate and assess cutting-edge issues in crime and justice, encouraging critical reflection on contemporary challenges. An additional optional sociology module in the spring term allows for further specialisation, giving students the flexibility to tailor the course to their interests. Together, these components create a well-rounded program that blends theory, practice, and empirical research, preparing graduates to address the multifaceted problems of crime, justice, and security in a rapidly changing world.
