COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Financial Technology (Finance) is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between finance and technology, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. Central to the program is the 40-credit dissertation, where students undertake independent research applying the tools and techniques acquired throughout the course. Core modules include Computational Market Microstructure for FinTech and the Digital Economy, which examines the design of trading strategies, electronic markets, and operational risk management, and Big Data in Finance, which develops skills for processing and analysing large financial datasets. The Financial Technology and Innovation module explores emerging technologies such as blockchain, cryptocurrencies, mobile banking, and peer-to-peer platforms, highlighting their impact on the financial services sector. Students also gain practical programming skills through An Approachable Introduction to Programming and strengthen their quantitative analysis capabilities in Data Analysis: Cross Sectional, Panel and Qualitative Data Methods. The program supports academic preparation and professional development through the Postgraduate Mathematics Preparation and Professional and Academic Development modules. Flexibility is offered through 40 credits of optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to specific interests or career goals. Together, these components ensure graduates are well-prepared for roles in fintech, banking, investment, or further research in technology-driven financial markets.
