COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Conflict Resolution program at Essex University provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary framework for understanding the causes, dynamics, and resolution of conflict on both national and international levels. The course begins with core modules in conflict resolution and peace, equipping students with theoretical and practical tools to analyse destructive conflict and explore strategies for non-violent resolution. Research design is emphasised, allowing students to develop rigorous methodological skills for investigating conflict, while two consecutive modules in quantitative methods and data analysis provide a strong foundation in statistical techniques and empirical evaluation, ensuring graduates can assess and interpret complex conflict data. Students also have the flexibility to choose optional modules from social sciences or government, enabling them to tailor their learning to specific interests such as international development, human rights, or comparative politics.
