COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Computer Networks and Security is structured to equip students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in network security and administration. At the heart of the program is the 60-credit MSc Project and Dissertation, where students undertake independent research, applying advanced techniques to analyse, design, and secure networked systems. Core modules include Network Security and Computer Security, which provide essential understanding of threats, vulnerabilities, and defence mechanisms, alongside IP Networking and Applications, which covers the design and management of modern network infrastructures. Students also take a core-with-options module, choosing between CE705-7-AU or CE885-7-AU, allowing them to develop specialised skills tailored to their interests. Professional Practice and Research Methodology equips students with research, project management, and professional development skills, while the 15-credit Group Project encourages collaboration, problem-solving, and practical implementation of network security solutions. Flexibility is offered through a 30-credit optional module, enabling students to tailor their learning to specific areas such as cybersecurity, advanced networking, or emerging technologies. By combining research-led teaching, hands-on laboratory work, and applied projects, the program ensures graduates develop a comprehensive understanding of network design, security principles, and the technical and professional skills required to address complex challenges in the field of computer networks and cybersecurity.
