COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Accounting and Finance at Essex Business School offers a well-structured curriculum that balances core knowledge with flexibility to pursue individual interests. Students undertake a major 60-credit core component, choosing between BE980-7-FY or BE989-7-FY, which allows them to explore advanced areas of accounting and finance in depth. A further 20-credit core option, either BE951-7-AU or BE953-7-AU, complements this foundation by broadening understanding of specialist topics. Compulsory modules include Issues in Financial Reporting and Portfolio Management, each worth 20 credits, which provide critical insights into the complexities of modern reporting practices and investment strategies. To tailor their learning, students select optional modules from the Essex Business School’s Colchester campus, with the opportunity to take up to 60 credits in chosen areas of interest, allowing for a personalised academic pathway. The course also incorporates two compulsory non-credit components: Postgraduate Mathematics Preparation, designed to strengthen quantitative skills essential for finance and accounting, and Professional and Academic Development (PAD), which enhances employability and research abilities.
