COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes Linguistics program is structured to provide students with an intensive research-focused experience, emphasizing the development of advanced skills in linguistic analysis and scholarly inquiry. The core component of the program is a 90-credit dissertation, which forms the central element of the degree and allows students to undertake an in-depth, original research project under the guidance of an assigned supervisor. In addition to the dissertation, students have the flexibility to select optional subject-specific modules or research projects worth 30 credits each, enabling them to tailor their learning to their particular research interests and academic goals. These optional modules allow students to deepen their understanding in specialized areas of linguistics while complementing their main research focus. Furthermore, the program offers optional research support modules, also valued at 30 credits, which are designed to enhance students’ methodological, analytical, and academic skills, providing essential tools for conducting high-quality research. This combination of a substantial dissertation, subject-specific study, and research support ensures that graduates are equipped with the expertise, critical thinking, and technical skills necessary for careers in academia, research institutions, or other professional settings that require advanced knowledge of linguistics and research methodologies.
