COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling is designed to provide students with comprehensive, practical, and professional training across the key areas of language services. The program combines theoretical knowledge with applied practice, preparing graduates to work as translators, interpreters, and subtitlers in diverse professional contexts. Core modules such as Principles of Translation and Interpreting, Translation Portfolio I and II, and Interpreting Practice I and II develop students’ ability to work accurately and efficiently between English and their chosen language, fostering both linguistic proficiency and cultural awareness. The Technologies of Translation module introduces students to industry-standard tools, while Subtitling: Principles and Practice provides practical skills in adapting and synchronising content for media platforms. A compulsory module on Professional Skills for Translators and Interpreters further supports students in developing workplace readiness, including communication, project management, and professional ethics. Optional modules allow for additional focus areas tailored to individual interests, enhancing versatility in professional practice. The program culminates in a 60-credit dissertation, enabling students to conduct independent, in-depth research in a specialised area of translation, interpreting, or subtitling. By integrating practical training, professional skill development, and research, the course equips graduates with the expertise, technical competence, and experience required to pursue careers across business, media, technology, public services, and other multilingual sectors.
