COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Translation and Interpreting is a comprehensive program designed to develop professional competence in translation across multiple genres and contexts. Students gain expertise in literary, technical, and audiovisual translation while working with native speakers to ensure linguistic accuracy and cultural awareness. Core modules include Principles of Translation and Interpreting, Translation Portfolio I and II, and Audiovisual Translation, which build foundational and applied skills for real-world translation practice. Technologies of Translation I and II, along with Post Editing, introduce students to industry-standard tools and methods, enabling them to work efficiently in contemporary professional environments. Subtitling: Principles and Practice and Intercultural Communication further enhance students’ ability to navigate cross-cultural communication and adapt translations for specific audiences and media formats. A compulsory module on Professional Skills for Translators and Interpreters provides practical knowledge of the business aspects of translation, including project management, client interaction, and professional ethics. The program culminates in a 60-credit dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research in a specialised area of translation, interpreting, or subtitling, integrating theoretical understanding with applied expertise. By combining practical training, technological proficiency, intercultural competence, and research, the course equips graduates to enter the translation and interpreting industry as skilled professionals capable of delivering accurate, culturally appropriate, and high-quality translations across diverse sectors and media.
