COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Theory and Practice of Human Rights at Essex is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of human rights from theoretical, historical, and practical perspectives. The program combines core and optional modules that allow students to tailor their studies to their individual interests while gaining essential skills for research and professional practice. Core components include a dissertation, which enables students to conduct an in-depth investigation into a chosen human rights topic, and the Human Rights: Theories and Applications module, which explores key concepts, frameworks, and real-world applications of human rights principles. The course also offers a selection of compulsory modules with options, allowing students to engage with areas such as global diversity, social justice, gender, race, identity, and other contemporary human rights challenges. Additional optional modules provide further flexibility for students to pursue interdisciplinary perspectives or deepen their expertise in specialized areas.
