COURSE CURRICULUM

This sociology program provides a comprehensive framework for developing advanced research skills, theoretical knowledge, and specialised expertise in contemporary social issues. At its core, students undertake the Postgraduate Taught Project and Academic Skills module, worth 60 credits, which equips them with essential skills for independent research, critical analysis, and academic writing. Complementing this, the Sociological Research Design module, contributing 20 credits, introduces students to key methodological approaches, enabling them to design and conduct both qualitative and quantitative studies with rigour and clarity. The Topics in Contemporary Social Theory module, also 20 credits, engages students with significant debates and theoretical perspectives in sociology, fostering analytical thinking and a critical understanding of social structures, power relations, and cultural dynamics. To allow for individual specialisation, the program offers multiple optional modules, each worth 20 credits, enabling students to explore areas of personal interest within sociology, such as media, criminology, gender, human rights, or other emerging fields.
