COURSE CURRICULUM

This MA in Refugee Care offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding and providing therapeutic support to refugee populations. At its core, students undertake a Dissertation, accounting for 60 credits, which develops advanced research skills and the ability to critically analyse issues affecting involuntarily displaced people. Core modules such as Therapeutic Care for Refugees and Contexts of Refugee Experience, each worth 30 credits, provide in-depth knowledge of the practical, psychosocial, and systemic factors involved in working with refugees, emphasising both the human experience and effective intervention strategies. Compulsory components include a Placement, offering 30 credits of practical, supervised experience that allows students to apply theoretical knowledge directly in professional settings, enhancing their skills and professional development. Additional compulsory modules focus on the Psychoanalysis of Groups and Organisations and Psychosocial Perspectives on Human Rights, each contributing 15 credits, which equip students to understand group dynamics, organisational contexts, and the broader social and human rights frameworks relevant to refugee care. The program integrates experiential learning with theoretical study, fostering reflective practice and a nuanced understanding of trauma, resilience, and adversity-activated development.
