COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Political Science program is structured to provide students with both a strong foundation in research methods and the flexibility to explore specialised areas of interest. At its core, the course includes the MA Dissertation worth 60 credits, which enables students to conduct independent research and apply theoretical and methodological tools to a chosen topic in political science. Alongside this, students undertake a compulsory Research Design module, which builds essential skills in formulating research questions, designing studies, and evaluating evidence, as well as an Introduction to Quantitative Methods and Data Analysis I module, ensuring that students gain practical expertise in handling data and applying statistical techniques to political problems. To complement these core areas, students choose from a wide range of optional government modules, totalling 90 credits, which allow them to tailor their learning to specific themes such as comparative politics, political theory, international relations, governance, conflict, or public policy. This structure provides a balance between methodological training and subject-focused study, preparing students to critically analyse political processes while also developing transferable research skills. Graduates emerge with advanced knowledge, analytical competence, and a strong academic grounding, positioning them well for further study, research, or professional roles in politics and policy-making.
