COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Political Economy program combines theoretical depth with analytical training to explore the complex relationship between politics and economics on both a domestic and international scale. Central to the course is the dissertation, supported by either GV993-7-PS or GV985-7-PS, providing 60 credits of in-depth research experience. Alongside this, students study core modules in Comparative Political Economy and International Political Economy, each worth 15 credits, which together build an understanding of how institutions, governance, and global systems shape economic outcomes and political decisions. A compulsory Research Design module ensures students develop strong methodological and analytical skills essential for advanced study and professional application. The course also offers flexibility through optional modules, with 45 credits available from a range of Government options and 40 credits from either Government or Economics, allowing students to focus on topics most aligned with their interests, such as governance, international relations, or economic policy. Dissertation preparation, while non-credit bearing, supports the transition into independent research and provides essential academic guidance. By combining compulsory foundations with tailored options, the program equips students with the tools to critically examine contemporary issues in political economy and prepares them for careers in academia, policy analysis, governance, or international organizations.
