COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Organised Crime, Terrorism and Security is structured to provide students with a rigorous and well-rounded understanding of contemporary security challenges and the dynamics of global criminal networks. The course begins with the Postgraduate Taught Project and Academic Skills, worth 60 credits, which develops advanced research abilities and academic writing essential for postgraduate study. Students then engage with Global Security Challenges, exploring pressing issues such as cybercrime, terrorism, and emerging threats to international stability. The module on Transnational Crime examines how criminal activity evolves from local to global contexts, considering the impacts of globalisation, migration, and urbanisation on illicit practices. Alongside these, students study Sociological Research Design and Formative Debates in Criminology, which equip them with methodological expertise and a grounding in key theoretical and conceptual frameworks within criminology and security studies. An additional 40-credit optional module allows students to tailor the course to their specific interests, choosing from a variety of specialised topics. Altogether, the program blends theoretical insight with practical research skills, preparing students to analyse, interpret and address critical issues surrounding organised crime, terrorism and global security in both academic and professional contexts.
