COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Heritage and Museum Studies at Essex is structured to provide both a strong theoretical foundation and practical expertise in the field of heritage. The program includes compulsory modules such as Heritage and Human Rights, which explores the ethical and political dimensions of heritage, and Digital Heritage, which develops advanced digital literacy skills essential for contemporary heritage practice. Students also undertake an Interdisciplinary MA Dissertation, allowing them to pursue an in-depth research project tailored to their specialist interests, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical investigation. In addition to core modules, students can select from a wide range of optional modules, enabling them to focus on areas such as sustainability, curatorial practice, museum engagement, and hands-on heritage skills. The Seminar Series for Art History provides a platform for discussion, critical reflection, and engagement with current debates in the field, fostering an interdisciplinary approach to learning.
