COURSE CURRICULUM

This program offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to the study of gender and sexuality, combining core, compulsory, and optional modules to provide both depth and flexibility. At its core, students undertake Research Methods and a Dissertation, accounting for 60 credits, which equips them with essential skills in academic research, critical analysis, and independent study. Foundations in Gender and Sexuality Studies, a 30-credit module, provides a thorough grounding in key theories, concepts, and debates central to the field. Compulsory modules explore specialized areas, including The Psychic Life of Gender, Topics in Critical Race and Transnational Feminisms, and Gender, Race, Identity and Human Rights, each contributing 15 credits and encouraging students to engage with the intersections of gender, race, identity, and social justice. These modules foster critical thinking and an understanding of both historical and contemporary issues, as well as the psychosocial dimensions of identity and society. To allow for personalized academic exploration, the program also includes optional modules totaling 55 credits, giving students the opportunity to pursue cross-disciplinary interests and tailor their learning to specific research questions or career goals. Overall, the structure balances theoretical foundations, critical engagement, and practical research experience, preparing students to contribute meaningfully to scholarship, activism, or professional practice in gender and sexuality studies.
