COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Literature and Film program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical, historical, and practical aspects of both literature and film. Central to the course is the dissertation, which allows students to pursue an extended, in-depth research or creative project that integrates their chosen areas of literary and cinematic study. Dissertation preparation sessions equip students with essential research and writing skills, ensuring they can critically engage with sources, construct coherent arguments, and present their work effectively. Core modules, such as Critical Moments in the Theory and History of Film, provide a detailed exploration of key developments, movements, and ideas that have shaped cinema, giving students the analytical tools to examine films in their historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts. Students have the flexibility to select optional modules from literature or film, enabling them to tailor their studies according to their interests and career goals. These options allow for the study of literary theory, specific literary periods or genres, as well as film production or theory. Through a combination of guided research, critical analysis, and creative practice, the program develops students’ intellectual and practical skills, preparing them for careers in academia, filmmaking, cultural industries, or other fields that value strong analytical, creative, and communication capabilities.
