COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Economics course is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in economic theory, quantitative methods, and applied analysis, particularly for those whose prior studies may not have focused on economics. The core curriculum covers introductory microeconomics and macroeconomics, equipping students with the essential tools to understand individual, firm-level, and macroeconomic behaviour. Introductory econometrics develops analytical and statistical skills, enabling students to interpret and work with economic data, and apply empirical techniques to real-world problems. A central component of the program is the dissertation, which allows students to undertake independent research, synthesising theoretical knowledge and quantitative methods to produce an original piece of economic analysis. Students have the flexibility to tailor their studies through optional modules, which may include advanced topics such as international trade, financial economics, or specialised areas of economic policy. This structure ensures a balance between rigorous theoretical training and practical application, preparing students to critically evaluate economic issues and policy decisions. Throughout the course, support is provided to develop mathematical and research skills, ensuring students gain confidence in both quantitative analysis and independent research.
