COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Applied Linguistics and Language Acquisition provides students with a structured and flexible pathway to explore how languages are learned and taught. Central to the program is the development of research skills, which is supported by a compulsory Research Methods module that equips students with the tools and methodologies necessary to conduct rigorous investigations into language learning, acquisition, and teaching practices. Students also engage in a compulsory module with options, allowing them to focus on specialized areas such as language acquisition, classroom practices, or other targeted aspects of linguistics, depending on their interests and career goals. Optional modules provide further opportunities to broaden knowledge and expertise across diverse areas of linguistics, enabling students to tailor their learning experience to their individual research interests and professional aspirations. A key component of the program is the MA Dissertation, which allows students to undertake an in-depth research project on a topic of their choice, integrating theoretical understanding with practical investigation and contributing to the field of applied linguistics. By combining compulsory and optional coursework with independent research, the program develops students’ analytical, methodological, and critical thinking skills.
