COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM International Human Rights and Economic Law provides an in-depth exploration of the intersections between human rights, business, and economic law. The course equips students with the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to understand how private businesses, international economic institutions, and state actors influence the realisation of human rights. Students study compulsory modules covering the foundations of international human rights law, its theories and institutions, and the practical application of human rights law in diverse contexts. The program also focuses on business responsibility for human rights, examining the legal frameworks governing corporate conduct and the challenges of ensuring accountability for economic actors. Students gain insights into international economic law and contemporary global challenges, as well as public international law, enabling them to analyse complex situations where trade, investment, and economic policies intersect with human rights obligations. Optional modules provide opportunities for further specialisation, allowing students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. The course culminates in a dissertation, offering students the chance to conduct original research on topics relating to human rights and economic law. Graduates develop strong analytical, advocacy, and research skills, preparing them for careers in law, policy, international organisations, and non-governmental organisations, with a focus on promoting human rights within economic and business contexts.
