COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM in Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in international human rights law, with a particular focus on economic, social, and cultural rights. The course equips students to critically analyse the legal frameworks that protect these rights at international, regional, and national levels and to understand how these frameworks operate in practice. Central components include a dissertation that allows students to explore a topic of interest in depth, and compulsory modules in International Human Rights Law: Law and Practice, International Human Rights: Theories and Institutions, and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in Context. These modules provide a solid grounding in both the theoretical underpinnings and practical applications of human rights law, enabling students to assess how law interacts with public policy and social practice. Additional optional modules allow students to specialise further in areas of economic, social, and cultural rights or other human rights topics, while the inclusion of Public International Law ensures a broader understanding of the international legal environment. The Foundation Essay supports academic development and research skills, helping students engage with complex legal, social, and policy issues. Graduates are prepared for careers in advocacy, research, policymaking, and implementation roles within governments, international organisations, and non-governmental organisations.
