COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law program at Essex provides a comprehensive and structured approach to legal education, equipping students with a deep understanding of key areas of law and essential practical skills. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through compulsory modules in land law, public law, criminal law, and contract law, alongside career development learning and Essex Law key skills, which support the transition into the legal profession. The second year expands students’ legal knowledge and analytical abilities, covering tort law, equity and trusts, legal research skills, the law of the European Union, and justice, while also offering optional modules that allow for specialization. Career development skills continue to support professional growth, preparing students for the realities of a legal career. In the third year, students have the flexibility to tailor their studies further by selecting from a range of optional law modules, allowing them to focus on areas of particular interest or relevance to their future career. Core modules in this year also provide advanced study and integration of legal knowledge across different areas, fostering critical thinking and independent analysis. Overall, the program emphasizes both the theoretical foundations of law and the practical skills needed to succeed, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for a wide range of careers in law and related fields.
