COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law with Criminology degree at Essex provides a comprehensive study of law and its relationship with crime and society, combining rigorous legal education with criminological perspectives. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in criminal law, contract law, public law, and the broader social context of crime through the Introduction to Crime, Law and Society module. Students also develop essential skills through Essex Law Key Skills and career development learning, preparing them for further study and professional opportunities. In the second year, the course builds on this foundation with Tort Law, Land Law, and Policing, Punishment and Society, alongside modules in Justice and Legal Research Skills. These modules provide students with a deeper understanding of legal principles, crime prevention, and the functioning of the criminal justice system while enhancing critical analysis and research abilities. In the final year, students study the Law of the European Union and Equity and Trusts, while also selecting from optional modules to explore specialized areas of law and criminology. The program integrates the study of policing, punishment, and societal impacts, encouraging students to critically examine how legal systems respond to crime. Graduates develop the knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical understanding necessary for careers in law, criminal justice, policy, advocacy, and research, with the ability to engage thoughtfully with complex legal and social issues.
