COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Sport Coaching course provides a comprehensive and practical approach to developing skills and knowledge essential for a career in sport coaching. In the first year, students gain a foundation in conceptualising sport coaching, understanding ethics, values and sustainability, and learning the fundamentals of sport coaching alongside sport performance and professional skills development. This combination equips students with both theoretical insights and practical expertise. In the second year, the course focuses on applying these foundations in diverse contexts and with different populations, exploring the societal role of sport coaching, evaluating and developing coaching practice, enhancing sport performance, and building research and professional skills. Students develop a deeper understanding of how coaching interacts with community, culture, and society, preparing them to meet the challenges of modern coaching. The third year emphasises advanced coaching practice, communication, and holistic athlete development, including strategies for managing sport events and engaging with communities. Students also study tactics and strategies for sport performance and complete a research project to consolidate their learning and demonstrate independent analytical and practical abilities. Optional modules allow for further specialisation, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in coaching, sport development, performance analysis, and related professional fields, combining academic knowledge with practical experience.
